JOIN CLUB.
Membership.
Membership means sharing one’s expertise to ensure the smooth running of the Studio and Club for all. All members are expected to complete a given volunteer job every month towards maintenance and community building in the studio. Members are expected to clean up thoroughly after themselves in the studio.
There is no ongoing instruction, and members must be able to work independently in the studio. To that end, to qualify for membership, you must have recent instruction in basic ceramics and glazing or extensive studio experience. If you are new to clay or need a refresher, classes are offered regularly at UNM-LA (Art Studio), Fuller Lodge Art Center and at several studios in Santa Fe.
Joining Fee.
The one-time joining fee establishes membership. As of 2023, fees are as follows:
$150 for an individual;
$50 per additional family member (with children 15 and older supervised by parents as needed); and
$75 for Post-Docs and current high school and college students.
Plus an additional fee to enroll in trimester sessions to gain 24/7 studio access and a shelf.
Session Fees.
Session fees are due on the first day of the month that begins the trimester; members who are active during a session have full studio access and a shelf. Fees are assessed for each member who will be active in the session; family discount applies only to the joining fee.
Spring (Jan – April): $125
Fall (Sept – Dec): $125
Summer (May – Aug): $65
*Access is limited in the summer due to art camp. Members will be notified in advance as much as possible.
The studio may be unavailable during some Los Alamos Arts Council classes - check the calendar for accessibility. If members withdraw during a session refunds will not be given except at the discretion of studio management.
Supplies and Tools
Members must purchase clay through the Studio. We currently use two cone 5 clay bodies: Laguna B-mix and one darker clay on a rotating basis (i.e., Chocolate or speckled buff). Other clays are not permitted in the studio without permission. Glazes and basic tools are available, including a variety of underglazes. Outside glazes must have proof of firing temperature on the printed label and must be approved before use. Personal tools should be marked clearly with your name and stored on your shelf.
The studio contains a variety of wheels (including a standing wheel) for member use, as well as a slab roller.
Firing Fees
Members pay $1/lb, weighed after the final firing. Members may pay $50 for an off-schedule bisque or glaze firing, upon approval
Become A Member
If you are interested in becoming a member, please apply below or send us email at flacclayclub@gmail.com.
Because we are managed and maintained entirely by volunteers, things sometimes move very slowly, so we appreciate your patience.
New members may join as space is available, and after they have been interviewed by coordinators to determine their capability of working independently in the studio space.
